Fields-AIMS-Perimeter Africa Fellowship
This fellowship is a unique position which gives African nationals who have recently earned PhDs in mathematics or theoretical physics the opportunity to conduct research and collaborate with scientists at both Perimeter Institute and The Fields Institute at the University of Toronto. The goal of this initiative is to support the careers of young researchers who have a commitment to advance science in Africa.
Each year we will be hiring up to two African postdoctoral researchers for one-year fellowships to pursue their research careers either at Perimeter Institute, the Fields Institute, or jointly at both. The fellows will also retain connections with science in Africa by spending two months at an AIMS centre in Africa.
Perimeter’s areas of strength include cosmology, mathematical physics, particle physics, quantum fields & strings, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information, quantum matter, and strong gravity.
The Fields Institute supports research in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and computer science, as well as collaboration between mathematicians and those applying mathematics in areas such as engineering, the physical and biological sciences, medicine, and economics and finance.
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) is a pan-African network of centres for postgraduate training and research as well as for public engagement in mathematical sciences. Founded in 2003 with its first centre in Cape Town, South Africa, AIMS-NEI recruits talented African university graduates and provides them with the cutting-edge training in mathematics they need to enter technical professions or to pursue graduate studies in technical and scientific fields.
