In the wide family of asymptotic symmetries, asymptotic higher-spin symmetries seem to furnish an organizational principle to describe the IR behavior of gauge theory and gravity. In this blackboard presentation, I will introduce what these symmetries are and how they were originally related to soft theorems. The main point is to present the non-perturbative treatment recently found by Laurent Freidel and I, where we showed that there exists a non-linear Noether realization of a symmetry algebroid on the asymptotic phase space. Depending on my instructions for the Caltech seminar, I'll focus either on GR or YM.
