It is well known that symmetry and topology play a very important role in understanding of the condensed matter physics. In this talk, I will talk about our recent progress on symmetry and topology in mixed quantum phases. For mixed states, certain “weak” symmetries may hold “on average” for the entire ensemble, in contrast to “strong" symmetries respected by each state in the ensemble. In the first part, I will show that the interplay between these two kinds of symmetries leads to a rich landscape of symmetry-protected mixed states; in the second part, I will discuss a new landscape of spontaneous symmetry breaking in mixed quantum states named “strong-to-weak spontaneous symmetry breaking”, and discuss some key features.
