The universe from a hologram?

New research proposes that the universe may have been two-dimensional at the time of the big bang.

New research into the emergence of space and time has revealed evidence that the universe could have emerged from a two-dimensional “hologram.”

An international team of researchers from Canada, the UK, and Italy recently proposed in Physical Review Letters a model of the early universe very different from the world of our everyday experience.

In this video, Perimeter Institute researchers Niayesh Afshordi and Elizabeth Gould explain that a two-dimensional holographic model may help us understand what happened at the start of it all.
