Perimeter Institute (“Perimeter”) is the world’s largest research hub devoted to theoretical physics. Founded in 1999, Perimeter fosters breakthroughs in understanding our universe - from the smallest particles to the entire cosmos. The Institute is a public-private partnership supported by the Governments of Ontario and Canada, advancing science, innovation, education, and public engagement.

Land Acknowledgement

In the spirit of understanding and learning from what has come before, Perimeter respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron, Anishnabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Perimeter is situated on the Haldimand Tract, land promised to Six Nations, which includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.

As settlers, we thank all the generations of people who have taken care of this land for thousands of years. We are connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities.

Project Description & Scope

To celebrate Perimeter’s 25th anniversary, we seek to commission an Indigenous artist to create a painting or sculpture for permanent display. The work will:

  • Highlight the connection to the land and original stewards.
  • Include a community engagement component.
  • Support cultural awareness and the journey toward reconciliation.

  • Reside in Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo, or Brantford.
  • Demonstrate a connection to the region.
  • Be professional, collaborative, and experienced in meeting deadlines and budgets.
