Let’s Talk Science and Perimeter Institute partner to leverage the power of science
Let’s Talk Science is a national charitable organization committed to inspiring and empowering children and youth in Canada to develop the STEM skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Perimeter Institute is a not-for-profit research institution devoted to theoretical physics. Both organizations have a long history of sharing the power and importance of science through free, award-winning programs and resources.
“The Perimeter Institute and Let’s Talk Science have informally collaborated for nearly two decades with our shared commitment to developing a science culture in Canada. I am thrilled that we are now formally joining forces to leverage our strengths in service to youth and educators” says Bonnie Schmidt, President and Founder, Let’s Talk Science. “Together we can showcase the critical importance of physics and math to an ever-growing audience.”
This new partnership will allow both organizations to further their efforts to increase scientific literacy among the Canadian public and amplify existing programs with even more young minds from coast to coast to coast.
Specifically, Perimeter will become a regular contributor to Let’s Talk News, an online resource library on letstalkscience.ca that includes a multi-media collection of resources authored by science, technology and innovation leaders with the goal to improve science literacy. Perimeter staff and scientists will provide inspirational content about topical, cutting-edge developments in the world of physics - with the first article launching this spring. In addition, Perimeter’s educational outreach staff will participate in other Let’s Talk Science events and initiatives – including the upcoming Let’s Talk Science Challenge – and staff from both organizations will co-host educational outreach efforts in Canadian schools.
“We’re incredibly excited to strengthen our long-standing ties with Let’s Talk Science,” says Paul Smith, Perimeter’s Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director. “Educational outreach has been a core part of Perimeter’s mission since its inception. For three decades, Let’s Talk Science has been doing important work to promote the power of STEM to children and youth across the country. Together, we can champion the scientific skills that underpin a modern society and empower the next generation of scientists and innovators.”
