Chapter 3: Shadowfell Keep
In
Winterhaven, the PCs learn about Shadowfell Keep. The keep is built over a rift
to the Shadow world, a world full of evil creatures and the home dimension of Orcus.
It is said that a death cult plans to re-raise Orcus at this Rift and the PCs
have to stop the cult before this can happen. The PCs leave Winterhaven and
head towards the keep. On the way, they encounter visitors from Duerock (Side Story 1). After some discussion, the PCs
continue on to the Keep. On the first floor, the PCs encounter several Goblins
guarding the enterance. Selena falls into a pit trap, but the group dispatches
the Goblins very quickly. They take the coridor to the East and encounter a
small group of Goblins arguing over treasure. The PCs surprise the Goblins and
kill them even quicker than they did the guards in the enterance way.
One Goblin offered to help the PCs and the boss Goblin
gave up the password for safe passage through the second level in exchange for
sparing his life. The PCs gave the passcode to the Hobgoblins and received mostly
safe passage to the Priest of Orcus chambers. In the first chamber they
slaughtered several vampires, two human beserkers and an Orcus Priest. On the
lower level they confronted Karlel in a very unclimatic battle and saved
Winterhaven from the re-raising of Orcus.
