Perimeter will bring interactive exhibits and host a talk on the importance of curiosity in science, education, and in our shared human experience.

Next week, Perimeter Institute is honored to participate in the SNF Nostos Conference in Athens, Greece. Hosted by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, one of the world’s largest grantmaking organizations and a longtime partner of Perimeter Institute, the conference features conversations by experts in everything from healthcare to literature and, of course, physics. This year’s conference theme is “humanity at the core” and coincides with the Foundation’s 30th anniversary.

Perimeter will bring the power of curiosity to SNF Nostos Conference with “Think Like a Scientist,” a series of interactive exhibits that teach core concepts about light, gravity, and how to work through problems scientifically.

Perimeter will also present an hour-long talk and discussion by Damian Pope, Outreach Scientist at Perimeter, and Asimina Arvanitaki, who holds the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Aristarchus Chair in Theoretical Physics at Perimeter.

The talk is called “Universal truths, human futures” and focuses on the power of teaching curiosity to our next generation, and how humanity has used curiosity to do everything from mark the lunar calendar on ancient baboon bones to wondering if our entire universe is one of countless in a vast multiverse.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation has generously supported Perimeter Institute for ten years. Not only do they fund Dr. Arvanitaki’s chair and research, but they have also been instrumental in the Institute’s educational outreach efforts, public events, and more.

“I am incredibly grateful for a decade of support from SNF and honored to be part of their 30th anniversary celebrations,” says Arvanitaki. “This talk is a unique opportunity to share how essential science and science education are to our shared human story.”

We are honoured to be participating in this incredible conference and are grateful for the ongoing relationship between Perimeter Institute and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

About PI

Perimeter Institute is the world’s largest research hub devoted to theoretical physics. The independent Institute was founded in 1999 to foster breakthroughs in the fundamental understanding of our universe, from the smallest particles to the entire cosmos. Research at Perimeter is motivated by the understanding that fundamental science advances human knowledge and catalyzes innovation, and that today’s theoretical physics is tomorrow’s technology. Located in the Region of Waterloo, the not-for-profit Institute is a unique public-private endeavour, including the Governments of Ontario and Canada, that enables cutting-edge research, trains the next generation of scientific pioneers, and shares the power of physics through award-winning educational outreach and public engagement.
