This workshop will focus on current developments related to Shape Dynamics. This is a recently proposed reformulation of general relativity which trades the local refoliation gauge invariance (also known as many fingered time) with local scale invariance. This gives a formulation which is locally equivalent to general relativity but has local conformal invariance and is expressed in terms of a family of preferred spatial surfaces.
Shape dynamics gives a new perspective on the relationship between gravitational theories and conformal field theories, and provides a new starting point for tackling quantum gravity. Current developments to be discussed include the behaviour at horizons and near singularities where the equivalence to general relativity may break down, and quantum field theory in a shape-dynamical setting.
