CANCELLED: Multipolar Order, Multipolar Kondo Effect, and Non-Fermi Liquids

We study emergent quantum phases in itinerant electron systems interacting with multipolar local moments. In such systems, the non-Kramers doublet of the local moment ion carries only multipolar moments, but not the dipolar moment. 
We develop a general Landau theory of multipolar order and show how such a theory can be used to predict generic phase diagram. We explain how magnetostriction can be used to detect the multipolar order parameters in view of the Landau theory. Using the renormalization group method, we also show that non-Fermi liquids behavior emerges from the Kondo coupling between the multipolar local moment and conduction electrons. Possible connections to existing and future experiments are discussed.
