The Waterloo Global Science Initiative presents the
EQUINOX SUMMIT: LEARNING 2030
A School for the 21st Century
Sunday, September 29 to Thursday, October 3, 2013
in partnership with Perimeter Institute and the University of Waterloo.
Location: Perimeter Institute, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
Throughout history, scientific thinkers have led the way for better health, increased prosperity, and the advancement of our civilization. Generation after generation, their breakthroughs have given us the means to flourish on every corner of the planet.
But with economic uncertainty, depleting fresh water, an exploding population, climate change and energy transition, world hunger, and many other global issues, our civilization needs scientifically-minded problem solvers now more than ever.
How do we find innovative ways to empower the creativity and potential of the next generation?
How can we provide them with scientific thinking skills critical for the future?
What are the most promising learning models, communities, technologies, and resources around the world?
These are questions to be explored at the Equinox Summit, Learning 2030: A School for the 21st Century, a multinational and intergenerational collaboration to foster the next generation of problem solvers. Through a series of private working sessions, experts in science and policy,
and those from civil society and industry will investigate learning pathways for youth in the decades ahead, with a focus on helping them develop powerful scientific thinking skills.
In addition to summit collaborations, a roster of plenary sessions, lectures, and panel debates will also engage members of the public – onsite, online, and on TVO – who seek information on novel approaches to learning in the decades ahead.
