FACULTY POSITIONS IN CONDENSED MATTER THEORY

Perimeter Institute invites applications for up to three tenure track faculty positions (equivalent to the level of assistant professor) in theoretical condensed matter physics.  Exceptional candidates may also be considered for tenured senior faculty positions.  We welcome applications from outstanding individuals working on quantum condensed matter, highly entangled systems, quantum criticality, topological phases, non-equilibrium dynamics, synthetic quantum matter, and all related fields. These positions are part of a new Quantum Matter Initiative at Perimeter, which is expected to grow into a Centre for Quantum Matter (CQM) at the Institute. More information on the current Quantum Matter Initiative can be found here. The successful applicants will play a leading role in the growth of Perimeter's condensed matter theory efforts, and in integrating these activities with other related research areas such as quantum information, quantum fields, and tensor networks. As part of the above initiative, Perimeter is also searching to fill a number of tenure track faculty positions in Quantum Information Science.

Perimeter Institute is a leading global centre for fundamental research in theoretical physics. It is home to world class research efforts in condensed matter physics, cosmology, mathematical physics, quantum fields and strings, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information and particle physics. The Institute offers an exceptional research environment and is currently staffed with 23 faculty and 17 associate faculty members, as well as 55 postdoctoral fellows, 54 distinguished visiting research chairs and 35 visiting fellows. The Institute’s very active visitor, seminar, conference and workshop programs attract over one thousand visitors each year. More information about Perimeter Institute is available here and in particular, the condensed matter researchers can be found here.

The successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in theoretical physics or a closely related field, postdoctoral experience, and will have demonstrated exceptional strength in independent research. Interested candidates should submit their application online, including their curriculum vitae, list of publications and research statement. They must also arrange to have at least three letters of recommendations submitted as well, following the instructions provided on the application page.

Consideration of applications will begin on December 15, 2017. However, applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, however Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. Perimeter Institute is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals including women, visible minorities, aboriginal people, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity. Applicants who require special accommodation in order to complete their application/interview are encouraged to contact peopleandculture@perimeterinstitute.ca for assistance.
