The Department of Applied Mathematics at Western University and Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics invite applications for a joint appointment in the area of theoretical physics (broadly defined). This is a tenure-track faculty position at Western, in combination with Associate appointment at Perimeter Institute. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; exceptional senior applicants may also be considered.

Areas of interest to the Department and Perimeter Institute include astrophysics, cosmology, condensed matter theory, gravitational physics and particle physics.

An important goal for this position is the further integration of the research activities of Perimeter and Western, and it is therefore paramount that the candidate fit well with the cultures of both organizations. Presently, one Western faculty member (A. Buchel) is a Perimeter Associate in string theory, and four Western faculty members (D. Christensen, G. McKeon, V. Miransky, W. Myrvold) have Affiliate status in other research areas. Western faculty with associate appointments at PI are expected to spend significant amounts of time in both locations, and will have a suitably reduced teaching load at Western.

Information about the Applied Mathematics Department at Western can be found at http://www.apmaths.uwo.ca. Information about the Perimeter Institute is available at http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca.

The consideration of applications will begin on **December 10, 2012** and continue until the position is filled.

For additional information contact Prof. Alex Buchel, Search Committee Chair at abuchel[at]perimeterinstitute[dot]ca.

Applicants should submit: curriculum vitae, a research plan, statement on teaching and arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent on their behalf. Applications (including recommendation letters) must be submitted through Perimeter Institute's online application form. A curriculum vitae should also be emailed to Dr. David Jeffrey, Professor and Chair, Department of Applied Mathematics, Western University, at djeffrey[at]uwo[dot]ca.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
